A Hip-Hop Nutcracker

Yea we know this isn't a new idea.

Nothing we've never heard of, but it sure doesn't get old. On December 17th, The United Palace of Cultural Arts will hold its hip hop rendition of the classic Nutcracker story. Directed and choreographed by Jennifer Weber from the award-winning hip hop company Decadancetheatre, and featuring dancers Megan "Megz" Alfonso, Ann-Sylvia Clark and Sammy "Samo" Soto, this remake will have a special spice.

The story transplants the classic holiday story to the streets of contemporary Washington Heights and mashes up all of UPCA's influences. It starts with the original music penned by Peter Ilyich Tschaicovsky, then remixed and re-imagined by DJ Boo, violinist Filip Pogády and MC Audubon, co-star and co-producer of MTV's "Washington Heights." Much of the scenery will be digitally projected, making use of cutting edge motion capture technology. Well, I'll be there to support my community and enjoy the entertainment. It's a free event, so why not. Show starts at 8 p.m.
