Titi Branch: The Passing of A Fire Starter
Earlier this month Titi Branch, co-founder of natural hair care brand Miss Jessie’s passed away at the age of 45. Titi Branch grew up in Queens, NY. She was intelligent, inquisitive, and a pioneer for natural beauty. She had attended many prestigious schools such as Hunter College High School in Manhanttan and University of Maryland. Titi Branch and her sister Miko Branch opened their first hair salon in 1997. The siblings Titi and sister Miko established Miss Jessie’s with the launch of their first kitchen concocted product, Miss Jessie’s Curly Pudding in 2004. Curly Pudding was Miss Jessie’s revolutionary product that allowed for soft, hydrated, and healthy curls. After the success of the Curly Pudding, Miss Jessie’s appeared in Target, Wal-mart, and other drugstore chains. Miss Jessie’s cult following grew even more after appearances on The Tyra Banks Show and mentions in national magazines including Allure and Essence. She has impacted the lives of thousands of women with her message of embracing natural beauty and allowing women to be able to feel confident in their natural curls. Miss Jessie’s message of being aware of your natural beauty and embracing your texture resonates with millions of women now more than ever during this natural hair movement. Titi Branch was a beautiful soul who’s passion for natural beauty left a legacy in the natural hair brand industry.
After hearing that Titi Branch passed away by suicide, it saddened my heart to hear such an inspiring soul that impacted the lives of thousands had taken her own life. In the words of Miko Branch, The Miss Jessie’s family asked to keep Titi’s legacy alive through the spread of the wonderful inventor and innovator that was Titi Branch. Though she has gone to rest in paradise, the spirit of Titi Branch will always shine through the message and the foundation of Miss Jessie’s.
Miko released a tribute to her sister alongside Stevie Wonder’s “As” below.

Show compassion to everyone, sometimes you will never know the battle someone is going through. Never be afraid to ask for help.
