Copal Tulum Hotel Review

Copal is a substance from the Buresa tree family, sacred trees used for clearing diseases and protection from mosquitoes usually found in Mexico, South America, and Central America. Copal is associated with the crown chakra and is used to cleanse and uplift the auric body and clear energy blockages. It also provides protection and is used for blessings.Traditionally, Copal was used by the Mayans and Aztecs. My latest Tulum adventure featured me staying and working at a space dedicated to healing.

Nestled in the residential Aldea Zama region of Tulum, this gem is the ultimate eco-conscious experience you didn’t know you needed. I took my work with me for my 3 day trip to work, play and recharge. Whether you are traveling with friends, your family or bae - Copal Tulum is the perfect escape.

The real estate development is managed by Rumba Rentals and features 56 luxury apartments with amenities of a 5-star hotel. The wild nature design is incorporated in all of the spaces including a co-working space, a gym, a spa, an infinity rooftop, a family size pool/lazy river two restaurants and a bike rental station.

Apartments all come with a private jacuzzi and tropical hunter green day beds for your self-care. The additional towels (intended for the pool) created an opportunity for me to channel my inner Sade during my morning meditations. Copal is home to hundreds of exotic birds that added a layer of therapeutic sound vibration to my solo time.

My days start at 7 AM so I was often the first customer at the in-house restaurant. Their coffee and breakfast meal selections made my long mornings specials. I often had a lot of visitors (mosquitos) come by, so it was nice when the staff burned actual copal.

By the 2nd day there, I had made friends with the staff who learned how to make my Mezcal concoction perfectly. The great service didn’t end there.

I also had dinner at the hidden Japanese rooftop restaurant, Kokoro. Kokoro is privately owned and has a separate entrance since it’s open to the public. However, you’ll find stairs that face the Copal property. It was hands down some of the best eel nigiri I’ve had. The sophisticated bar even had my favorite Japanese whisky, Hibiki.

The Copal staff truly made every second there feel so special. You’ll meet a combination of local Mexican hospitality professionals as well as expats from Argentina who support your every need along the way. If you’re not driving - you’ll be spending a bit of money and time to get to where the action is - but all worth it.
